Chichester is a cathedral city in West Sussex, in South-East England. It is the only city in West Sussex and is its county town. It has a long history as a settlement from Roman times and was important in Anglo-Saxon times. It is the seat of the Church of England Diocese of Chichester, with a 12th-century cathedral.

It was completed at the dawn of the 12th century, but also nods its head to an earlier era – the aisle that cuts along its right-hand side plays host to a slab of Roman mosaic floor, visible under glass. Its entrance, meanwhile, acknowledges the present – in the carved heads of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh on either side of the doorway.
